And then I put it in a bun...

My hair was feeling dry (the Boots Coconut and Almond Mask was not that conditioning but I'm giving it another chance this week) and as it's hard to moisturise in braids I decided to wash a little early. Hooray for 16 weeks post! Just 9 to go...

This week's products minus EVOO

[1] Once more, I easily detangled my hair from the braids I've been rocking. Win. I used extra virgin olive oil as I was at home (can only afford the normal stuff at uni!) and left it in all day as I went about my activities. By the time I got back to my flat in the evening, the olive oil had practically disappeared! This made me happy as it was evidence for what I've read: that olive oil (like coconut oil) absorbs into the hair shaft. I love to see science in action.

[2] I then rinsed my hair and co-cleansed with a mix of Herbal Essences Moisture Balance Shampoo, L'Oréal Triple Resist Reinforcing conditioner and the last dregs of my once beloved Tresemmé Keratin Deep Treatment Masque. Bye, boo. My roots/underprocessed hair loved it, the lengths bravely tolerated it. Ehh. I need to reinvest in some sulphate-free shampoo.

Here's a good example of my hairs! Curly roots/wavy underprocessed/straight ends. So fun to see these things

[3] I squeezed out excess water then deep conditioned under a shower cap and towel with Boots Coconut and Almond Mask and hemp oil. I c.o.m.p.l.e.t.e.l.y saturated my hair and I barely used any of the tub!

[4] Afterwards, I tshirt dried for 30 mins, applied leave-ins of Boots Coconut and Almond Leave-in/Hemp Oil/Mr Miracles Daily Moisturising Lotion in the L.O.C method and tension blowdried in 4 sections (dividing them up further if they weren't drying quickly enough).

[5] I wrapped my hair up for bed in two bantu knots and said good night! The next day, my hair looked like the first pic but I pinned it up pretty sharpish.

Regarding the Boots deep conditioner, it performed okay. I think I'll keep it for a co-wash conditioner when I'm not so deep in a stretch. I certainly don't have time to tension blowdry twice a week!

Another successful wash day, how 'bout you?

  1. Two Bantu Knots gave you that curl?! You are good! I can't leave coconut oil in my hair for too long because it makes it feel brittle. Do you get that feeling when you use EVOO??

    1. Ha, I think it was a fluke! Thinking about the effort I've gone through to sleep in flexirods though (when apparently I could have done this for a similar effect??) = big sigh. I usually only get that feeling with coconut oil when it's cooler so I'm thinking about switching to EVOO for the winter or mixing the two together.

  2. Look at all that curl! I <3 bantu knots! And this sideswept beachy wave look that you have going on is super cute! You should have totally rocked that at least for one day!

The texture on your strand looks exactly like mine did when I WAYYY underprocessed my hair during my last touch up!

Thanks for sharing your #washdayexperience chica!

    1. Next wash day I definitely will - I'll put something with more hold in and rock it! Mine doesn't seem too underprocessed across the whole of my head and some strands are definitely straighter than others so I'll take it, ha.
