Coarse Yaki hair extensions!

Now, I've been toying with the idea of installing a sew-in or u-part wig because I never do anything fun with my hair. It's pretty much bun central which is good for retention but not for overcoming laziness. However, a part of me is still balking from the idea of not having full access to my hair at this early stage of my hair growing. I already neglect my hair every now and again - what would I do if I was 'unable' to get to it?

So while looking around, I found out that there is a type of extension hair made specifically to match afro textures: yaki. Before, I've only ever used the silky variety, which involves a lot of heat to match textures.Yaki comes in many beautiful varieties from what I would describe as bonelaxed to texlaxed to curly to kinky. It's lovely and one day maybe I'll be getting the kinky variety as a way to boost my fro!

I bought one pack of coarse yaki at approx. £55 (including postage) as I'm not particularly flush with money. It seems to be generally recommended that two packs is enough for a whole head sew-in. One pack should be enough for a full head of clip-in extensions. With my airdried hair, I don't think I'll need more than three or so tracks to boost my thickness and give a little more length.

My hair is currently 11-12" and I bought 16" as this hair is not dead straight and so will appear a little shorter than its stretched length. Also, let's be real, I wanted a tad more length. My aim here is to look realistic, not like the knee length swishing bone straight weaves (although I do think they can look gorgeous too)!

I just want hair that falls around my shoulders and keeps me warm! And the fact I (and others) can do this with an afro-texture hair is wonderful.

'Til Next Time,
Lam
