Obviously, I had more 'dos than this, but it was generally a puff which has become...

(Picture is me with conditioner about to wash) So I'm a couple of weeks off from one year post big chop! I've been trucking along figuring out what exactly my hair can do and take and I'm just so excited by what I see. People aren't lying when they talk about the awkward stage. I spent most of this year lamenting the fact I couldn't do a real bun. However I retained 4" of growth over the 4 I already had, despite frequent trims, and I can finally tie my hair up the way I want to. So...

Yeah, so I grew all this hair since the last time you saw me... Hi all! I've been learning and enjoying my hair for the past couple of months, finding out what my hair likes and what it hates. I was getting good length retention but just had to cut off around half an inch of frazzled ends after I mistakenly thought I could use a flat iron on this fine hair of mine. Spoiler alert: I can't. I'm now dealing with mega single strand knots, which weren't an issue until then. Ah well, lessons learnt! ...

This was the work of about 40-50 twists, which I left in for a few days before taking out. Very happy with the result, especially now I've trimmed off what I believe is the last of my texlaxed ends that were hanging on. This is probably going to be one of my default style for a while as my hair is way too short for a full bun. Still deliriously happy with my hair and my decision to chop. xx Lam ...

Wow, I made it to 52 weeks... At points, I didn't think I'd get this far, but after I decided to let go of hair rules and strike a balance between listening to my hair and having fun, I'm getting the hang of it. I just snipped 1/4-1/2" off my hair, but that's pretty much been it chopwise - I still have 4-10" of relaxed ends on various parts of my hair. I have 4-5" of natural roots. As I texlaxed for close to a year before transitioning, it can be difficult to see my line of demarcation,...

As my transition continues and I fall more in love with my coily hair, the more I realise that this is definitely the right path for me. However, I would never have been able to realise this if it wasn't for the healthy relaxed hair practices I learnt over the course of a year from so many bloggers. This has allowed me to go into the transition with the best quality hair possible, meaning that there is less frustration with regards to various issues.  I'm going to break a few of them down in this post. My hair...

Countdown Clock So I did a little measure of my hair, and my new growth is now between 3.5-4" long! On average, this is a growth rate of around 0.4" per month, and gives me a growth rate of nearly 5" per year. This is slightly more than I had previously projected, so I'm happy about that! I have been using my scissors way too much recently, and I decided to intentionally 'ruin' them. I am very strict about only using my shears for hair cutting, but after I gave my friend a trim that only reignited the...

That pretty much sums up how I feel about my transitioning hair at the moment. I've been experimenting with styles a lot - using clip ins (some of which I bleached a pinkish colour, post upcoming) and my new Curlformers. While this has been fun, I've also had my hands in my hair a ridiculous amount. I even took my marley braids out early just to wash my hair and play in it! I've been washing it 2x a week on average (one wash, one co wash), even when I don't need to. And what this does is...

The ends of my extensions are tinted red, and I love the effect it gives with the curls. So I did a little practice on the tuft of hair at the back of my head, but that wasn't enough to see any real curl so I decided to practice on my clip-in extensions while my hair is all braided up. It's only been 1.5 weeks but I reeeally want to take them out so I can play! ...
